The essence of this Food Republic illustrated story, like the essence of tapas, was simplicity. In these illustrations I captured the basic elements of each of the "top ten tapas" using very simple graphic elements, shapes, colors and composition.
Tapatoon
I adapted the legend of the origin of Spanish tapas to create the pilot for an animated series bringing to life anecdotes and curious facts about world cuisine and food history.
Dresden Bar
Dresden in Los Feliz is the kind of bar that reminds me of my native Barcelona. A decadently beautiful bar with legendary waiters, nicely served drinks, subtle music and relaxed people. I love to sit there, have a couple of beers and draw.
Ballpark eaters
Food republic asked me to illustrate two types of ballpark eaters for a story about baseball stadium food. I choose the Field Level Local Snob and the Mezzanine Garbage Can.

Farmers Market
Since we moved to Los Angeles we I love going to the farmers markets. In the past 2 years we have been going to the Atwater market on Sunday mornings. This is a painting I made with my iPad that tries to capture from imagination the light and mood of the market.
Siam Sunset
Sketches at Siam Sunset in Thai Town, Los Angeles.
Spilled salt
This is a painting I made for an exhibition in Spain. The superstition about spilling salt — which I recently discovered originated with Da Vinci's "Last Supper" -- brought deeper meaning to this still life.
The Illustrated Kitchen
An illustration I made for Food Republic. Check the original article at Foodrepublic.com here.
